Wonderground Single Vineyard Marananga Shiraz

$35.00

Our Mirus vineyard has a great diversity of soil and aspect. We chose the fruit for this wine from a sweeping gully with deep sandy-loam soil which channels cooling air from our ridge into the valley below, delivering fruit with freshness and energy. Gentle winemaking and maturation in 3 older French oak puncheons were used to preserve the bright, juicy raspberry and cherry fruit.

Only 480 cases made.

Winemaker’s Notes
Fruit for this wine was sourced from a sweeping gully of deep sandy-loam soils, where cool air drains from the ridge into the valley, naturally moderating ripening and preserving freshness. Gentle extraction and maturation in three seasoned French oak puncheons for 10 months were employed to maintain purity of fruit.
Aromas of blackberry, mulberry and cassis lead, supported by liquorice. The palate is well balanced and medium-bodied, showing blackberry pastille, mulberry and raspberry flavours, layered with subtle roasted walnut complexity. Fresh acidity and long, grippy tannins carry the wine through a persistent finish.

“Bright raspberry freshness, slippery and svelte, depth without density. Shiraz rejuvenated and reshaped.” - Nick Ryan
... leads with a most fantastic nose: midnight register spice (clove, anise, black pepper) colors the black spectrum fruit of blackberries, raspberries, black tea, black cherry and tapenade. In the mouth, the wine is all graphite and shale, minerality and finesse. It's got girth and depth, but it is also fine and detailed. It's feather, as well. This is the kind of wine we search for when we discuss the agility and diversity that Shiraz/Syrah is capable of, especially within a region such as the Barossa - Erin Larkin
