Winter at Wonderground: A Season to Settle In

Winter at Wonderground: A Season to Settle In

There is something about winter in the Barossa Valley that invites you to slow down.

The light softens. The mornings arrive quietly, wrapped in mist that lingers low across the vines. The landscape feels closer somehow—more intimate, more reflective. It’s a season that doesn’t ask for urgency, only presence.

And at Wonderground, winter is when everything begins to deepen.

Inside, the doors open to warmth. Wood fires flicker and settle into a steady glow, casting light across textured walls and artworks that shift in mood as the day moves on. Chesterfield lounges invite you to sink in, glass in hand, as time gently stretches out in front of you. This is not a place for rushing—it’s a place for lingering.

The wines follow suit.

Winter is the season of red wine, in all its quiet complexity. Glasses of Shiraz, Grenache and blends that speak of Barossa soils and long, warm days are poured with intention. These are wines that open slowly, revealing themselves over conversation, over laughter, over the simple act of sitting still long enough to notice. They are not just tasted—they are experienced.

Beyond the glass, art lives and breathes through the space. At Wonderground, wine and art are not separate conversations, but part of the same language. Each piece, each brushstroke, adds another layer to the experience—encouraging you to see, feel, and interpret in your own way. It’s immersive without being overwhelming. Thoughtful, but never forced.

And then, there is the table.

Long lunches in winter in the Mirus Room take on a different rhythm—slower, richer, more connected. At Eight, the experience is designed to unfold in front of the fire. Dishes arrive with a sense of generosity, created to be shared, paired, and enjoyed without looking at the clock. The connection between food and wine becomes more pronounced in the cooler months—deeper flavours, more texture, more comfort.

Here, a long lunch isn’t just a meal. It’s stories told across the table, glasses refilled without noticing, the quiet satisfaction of nowhere else to be.

Winter in the Barossa isn’t about spectacle. It’s about feeling.

It’s about the warmth of a fire against the chill outside. The weight of a glass of red wine in your hand. The softness of a well-worn lounge. The way art and conversation seem to flow a little more freely.

At Wonderground, this season is an invitation—to step away from the noise, to settle in, and to experience wine, place, and people in their most honest form.

Because sometimes, the best moments are the ones that ask nothing of you—except to stay a little longer.

Wonderground Launches ‘The Art of Wine School’ and ‘Eight’: A New Chapter in Immersive Experiences in the Barossa

Wonderground Barossa has officially launched two new premium wine experiences in the Barossa Valley: The Art of Wine School and Eight — immersive, small-group encounters designed for travellers seeking depth, education and refined food and wine pairing.

Positioned at the intersection of wine, art and landscape, these new offerings expand Wonderground’s commitment to intimate, high-quality Barossa Valley wine experiences.

Barossa Valley, South Australia.

April 2026

Wonderground Barossa is proud to announce the launch of two deeply considered and highly immersive experiences: The Art of Wine School and Eight — marking a bold new chapter in experiential tourism in the Barossa.

Created for curious minds and discerning travellers, these offerings move beyond traditional tastings to explore wine as craft, culture, land and story amongst art and the vineyards.

The Art of Wine School

Where curiosity meets craftsmanship

‍The Art of Wine School is an intimate and thoughtfully curated education series designed to deepen understanding while maintaining a sense of ease and enjoyment. Hosted by Sarah Day our wine educator and our winemakers/owners, the program invites guests into the layered world of wine — from soil and season to structure and sensation.

‍More than a classroom, this is a conversation. ‍

Participants explore wine through guided tastings, storytelling, food pairings and sensory discovery. Whether undertaking WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, delving into the Barossa with the Barossa Wine School, or immersing themselves in a relaxed exploration of wine and food pairing, guests leave with clarity, confidence and a deeper connection to the region.

The philosophy is simple: wine should be understood but never intimidating. Through connection and education, we create lifelong lovers of wine.

Eight

‍An intimate culinary and wine journey

‍Alongside the launch of The Art of Wine School commencing in May, Eight — a refined, reservation-only private dining experience for 8, that celebrates the rhythm of the vineyard, the seasons and the nuance of thoughtful pairing.

Eight is built around a curated menu by Sandor Palai, each dish intentionally paired with wines from Mirus and Wonderground. The experience unfolds slowly, encouraging conversation, contemplation and connection.

Set in the 100-year-old Mirus Room, having explored the Wonderground gallery, Eight is intimate by design. It is not a restaurant; it is an encounter — with the food, the wines, the art, with the land, and with the people who craft them.

Each course reveals something essential: a soil type expressed in texture, a vintage speaking through structure, a pairing that reframes a wine entirely.

‍ ‍

A Natural Evolution for Wonderground

The launch of The Art of Wine School and Eight represents a natural progression for Wonderground Barossa and Mirus Vineyards — a brand rooted equally in wine and art, and in the belief that both deserve time, attention and thoughtful engagement.

As the Barossa continues to attract global travellers seeking depth over speed and authenticity over spectacle, Wonderground’s newest offerings speak directly to those who value learning, intimacy and meaningful experience.

These are not simply tastings.
They are invitations — to look closer, taste deeper and linger longer.

Bookings for The Art of Wine School and Eight are now open for bookings.

Wonderground Wins 2026 Best Of Wine Tourism Award

Wonderground has been awarded South Australia’s 2026 Best Of Wine Tourism Award for Art and Culture — celebrating our cellar door, gallery, and the intention behind them both.

Official award tile for Wonderground

We have been awarded South Australia’s 2026 Best Of Wine Tourism Award for Art and Culture — celebrating our cellar door, gallery, and the intention behind them both.

Presented by the Great Wine Capitals global network, these awards recognise innovation and excellence across ten of the world’s leading wine regions. Wonderground was selected as South Australia’s winner in the Art and Culture category — a category that speaks directly to the purpose behind what we’ve built here in Marananga.

From the beginning, we wanted Wonderground to feel different. Not just a place to taste wine, but a destination layered with texture, meaning and intent. A cellar door and a gallery. A studio and a sanctuary. A place to pause, reflect, and connect —with the land, and with the creative spirit of the Barossa and the community that brings it to life.

This award reflects the slow and considered work of building something with depth. A place where architecture, vineyard, and gallery are given equal weight. Where you can feel the intention behind every decision, even if it’s quiet.

It’s a privilege to be recognised among such an inspiring group of wine experiences across the Barossa and greater South Australia. Our thanks to the judging panel, and to the team at South Australia’s Great Wine Capitals program.

In November, Wonderground will go on to represent Adelaide in the global Best Of Wine Tourism Awards — held this year in Bordeaux, France.
