Five Stars Again: Mirus Vineyards Recognised for a Second Consecutive Year
We’re delighted to share that Mirus Vineyards has received a five-star winery rating for the second consecutive year in the 2027 Halliday Wine Companion.
For a family owned wine project still in its infancy, it is a particularly meaningful recognition — not only of the wines we make, but of the place, people and philosophy behind them.
Halliday reviewer Dave Brookes describes Mirus as:
“An impressive new entrant to the Barossa wine scene, Mirus has a range of single-site, Marananga-born wines that show well-made, perfectly ripened Barossa lines and speak clearly of their western Barossa roots.”
It is that connection to place that sits at the heart of Mirus.
Our wines are made from individual blocks across the Mirus vineyard on the Western Ridge of the Barossa, where variations in soil, aspect and vine age create their own distinct expressions. Rather than trying to make every wine conform to a particular style, Luke and Nick work closely with the vineyard to understand what each site has to offer.
Dave also recognises the larger story of which Mirus is a part — Wonderground Barossa, the contemporary art gallery, cellar door and gathering place created by Kirsty Kingsley and Renee de Saxe.
“It’s all part of a larger project, Wonderground Barossa, which is the brainchild of Kirsty Kingsley and Renee de Saxe, who have converted an old farmhouse into a contemporary art gallery and cellar door that overlooks the rolling vineyards of Seppeltsfield and Marananga.”
Having recently celebrated their 4th birthday, Mirus and Wonderground have always been inseparable. Wine, art, landscape and hospitality come together here — each offering a different way of experiencing this extraordinary part of the Barossa.
The 2024 wines
We’ve also just received the Halliday reviews for the 2024 Mirus single-block wines, which will be released for the first time at our upcoming Three-Fold Long Lunch on 3 October 2026.
All three wines received exceptional scores:
Mirus Block 18 — 95 points
Grenache from quartz gravels over red clay, limestone and ironstone, showing red and dark plum, pippy raspberry and red cherry alongside ironstone, exotic spice, gingerbread, cola, earth and citrus blossom.
Dave describes it as perfumed and lifted, with airy red fruits, compact tannins and a “great nervy cadence”.
Mirus Block 5 — 95 points
Sourced from deep sand over clay and decomposing rock, this Shiraz shows saturated blackberry, blueberry, damson and boysenberry fruit with layers of five-spice, violets, dark chocolate, almond blossom and earth.
Detailed, bright and pure, it combines fine, toothsome tannins with depth and latent power, balanced by a bright black-cherry acidity.
Mirus Block 21 — 94 points
From a single block on the northern edge of the Mirus vineyard, this wine brings together juicy satsuma plum, blueberry and boysenberry with rose petals, citrus blossom, five-spice, dark chocolate, iron and earth.
A strong expression of the excellent 2024 vintage, with sandy tannins, bright plum-skin acidity and a long finish.
A new chapter for Mirus
The 2024 wines represent another step in the evolution of Mirus — a young label beginning to establish a clear voice within the Western Barossa.
Receiving five stars for a second consecutive year is an important acknowledgement of that journey. But perhaps more importantly, Dave’s words capture what we hope people experience when they encounter Mirus: wines that are unmistakably of Marananga and the Western Ridge, made with precision but without losing their sense of place.
The 2024 Mirus wines will make their first appearance at our Three-Fold Long Lunch on 3 October 2026, where guests will have the opportunity to taste the three single-block wines together and explore the different expressions of the vineyard, vintage and site.
